ABSTRACT

Focussing on the right-wrong judgement of collocation in Japanese language education, we discuss the use of a sentence “私の趣味は○○です”, which is a major narrative from the beginner level. In this sentence, the part “○○です” is syntactically interpreted as a predicate of “趣味”, and the noun “○○” is also the subject of “趣味”. Here, the question is whether or not the nouns “趣味” and “○○”can directly form a collocation. This question arises because this sentence in general ends grammatically in a noun clause such as “私の趣味は○○をすることです”. In this paper, we focussed on “私の趣味は○○です”, and analysed various aspects of its use such as changes in collocation, differences between oral and written, construction of forms, and language habits. Through analysis and discussion, it was revealed that the sentence “私の趣味は○○です” began to be used widely in the 2000s. We came to the conclusion that it can be seen as a kind of constructed expression of language, and that it can be used in everyday conversation in relatively colloquial or free sentence expressions. However, in Japanese language education, it is desirable to teach the sentence “私の趣味は○ ○をすることです”, and depending on the situation, it is desirable to explain that “私の趣味は○○です” can also be used in daily life.
