AB - In this paper, the research trends of pragmatics and sociolinguistics are introduced, focusing on Japanese linguistics research papers published in Korea from 2021 to 2022, which correspond to the fourth phase of the current and prospects of pragmatics and sociolinguistics research conducted by the Japanese Language Association of Korea. The following is a summary of the research mentioned in the field of pragmatics and sociolinguistics in the Japanese language community in Korea. (1) The number of research papers in the fields of pragmatics and sociolinguistics continues to increase, but there are not many joint studies yet. (2) In terms of content, there are many contrasting studies on discourse analysis and language behavior looking at research themes, research subjects and suggested keywords in the field of pragmatics and sociolinguistics. (3) In terms of data analyzed, the number of research papers adopting multiple data is increasing, and the diversification of data is continuing. (4) Looking at the detailed situation of papers by research theme, each field of pragmatics and sociolinguistics has developed longitudinally and horizontally, expanding the contact point with the field of Japanese language education while applied research is increasing. As description-oriented research results on language functions and usage conditions accumulated in the fourth period, the mechanisms of pragmatics and sociolinguistics are identified and theoretical models are continuously proposed. However, factor analysis and theory construction through descriptive research and fact-finding surveys remain challenges in the fourth period. In the future, a new perspective of research is required to show the entire aspect of pragmatics and sociolinguistics as it leads to language education practice as an optimal research method for each research task. In other words, an approach to research aiming at microscopic insights and macroscopic conclusions through a multi-layered analysis framework is expected.
