ABSTRACT

This study introduces a practical research project on the 「Korean Language and Culture」 program conducted in 2024 for students from S University in Korea and K University in Japan. In this program, a preliminary survey was first conducted on the participants’ motivations for participating and their learning interests. The results revealed that both Korean and Japanese university students emphasized <understanding Korean and Japanese cultures>, <improving language skills>, and <student exchanges>. Based on these findings, the program established its primary objective as <enhancing intercultural communication skills> and designed the curriculum accordingly. This paper divides the program into 「online classes (Metaverse), offline classes (on-site in Korea), and online performance presentation (Metaverse)」 and presents the details of the classes and student exchange activities at each stage. Finally, a satisfaction survey was conducted after the program. The results showed that both Korean and Japanese students preferred the blended learning method and described the ideal offline-to-online ratio as 7:3 or 8:2. Additionally, it was noted that both Korean and Japanese university students demonstrated mutual interest in each other's languages and cultures. Through this program, they also evaluated that their intercultural communication skills had improved.
