AB - This study analyzes Japanese language history papers published in Korea from 2023 to 2024, summarizing research trends and prospects. The findings are as follows: First, 1,724 papers on "Japanese Language, Japanese Literature, and Japanese Studies" were published between 2023 and 2024, with only 83 papers (4.8%) focusing on Japanese language history. This shows a decline compared to the previous survey (2021–2022).
Second, when examining the distribution of papers by research field, papers on "Lexicology" were the most numerous, followed by "Characters/Notation," "Grammar," "Others," and "Phonology." Compared to the previous survey, the proportion of papers in the fields of "Lexicology" and "Characters/Notation" increased, while the proportion in "Phonology" and "Grammar" decreased.
Third, analyzing research trends by era revealed that most research focused on Modern Japanese. Notably, research in the fields of "Lexicology," "Grammar," and "Characters/Notation" on Modern Japanese was actively conducted.
Fourth, more studies have been conducted using the "Japanese Historical Corpus" and various databases.
Fifth, research on Modern Japanese textbooks, Korean and Japanese language learning resources, and Japanese newspapers published in Korea has been consistently ongoing.
Furthermore, the recent updates to the "Japanese Historical Corpus" by the National Institute for Japanese Language, along with its improved search systems, are expected to support future research with more extensive data. This should lead to better research outcomes in both quantitative and qualitative aspects.
