ABSTRACT

This study set out to apply family therapy theory to pastoral counseling. Marriage is a probably most intimate form of a relationship. To a degree, conflict in such an intimate relationship is expected. There are many reasons for marital problems. In the middle of rapid social changes, the degree of family difficulties has reached a serious level. Since a family is a system in which the members interact each other, a member’s changes inevitably affect another member’s changes. A family is usually connected with upper generation in psychological aspects, which requires an examination of at least three generation in oder to diagnose and solve family problems. There are many cases of serious family problems faced by pastors, more and more of whom have great interest in family therapy in an attempt to provide more professional counseling services to those troubled families. It may seem a little too much to apply a family theory to pastoral counseling.
