ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to make Christian counseling suggestions based on narrative therapy in order to prevent elderly suicide whose rate is the highest in the life cycle. According to the domestic and foreign studies, religiosity and spirituality is the protection factor to lower elderly suicide rate. Based on the result, through the narrative therapy, this study tried to intervene to prevent elderly suicide from the perspective of Christian counseling. The Christian counseling suggests based on narrative therapy to prevent elderly suicide are presented as follows: First, the story saturated with elderly issues leads into an alternative story newly Secondly, story transition should bring about the creation of life meaning. Thirdly, a client's sad and despairing story should be re-authored to a story to recover the client's crushed self-esteem. Fourthly, it is required to connect human narrative with God's narrative through active religious activities like church service. Fifthly, it is necessary to build cooperative relationship through re-membering service that provides the elderly with the unique wisdom and practice of Christianity. Sixthly, with the application of the reflecting team of narrative therapy, it is needed to enrich individuals' life experience. By making the suggestions, this study is meaningful in the point that it re-constructs narrative therapy from the Christian perspective and finds the practical and clinical implication to prevent elderly suicide.
