ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to suggest the understanding of relationship addiction and the method of recovery of relationship addiction through the triple structure of biblical counseling. Relationship addiction is self-cultivating behavior that comes from self-centeredness that constantly aspires to relationships to satisfy self-desires through relationships with other people. This study is to find out how to recover relationship addiction through the triple-structure counseling which can overcome a limit of the dual relationship between the counselor and the client. The triple structure-counseling relationship based upon the empathic trust relationship is that the counselor helps the client to establish intimate relationship with God, and both of them experience God's love through the triple structure-counseling relationship of God-counselor-client. In addition, it emphasized that the sense of solidarity with the affiliation of the church community, the establishment of identity and extension of the relationship, and the direction through the caring ministry of the church community are important factors for restoring the image of God from relationship addiction. In relationship addiction counseling, the counselor should know the importance and limitation of one-on-one counseling and help the client to belong to the church community, establish a firm identity in Jesus Christ, and experience new relationships, and expand relationships in God's family community.
