ABSTRACT

This study aimed to provide Christian counselors with some suggestions for dealing with the clients’ problems of sin in Christian counseling, especially with the perspective of mourning. In the Bible, “mourning” is used not only to describe the state in which someone lost his loved object and he shows sadness, but also to indicate severe suffering because of being aware of sin. So, in this study the concept of mourning is used as a metaphor to understand how to deal with the clients’ sin. First of all, in the mourning process, people experience severe suffering, it helps to understand that we have sinful nature and it is so strong. Second, in order to complete mourning, people need to long amount of time and mourning usually goes through a course. It means that to deal with the problems of sin, clients need time and counselors and client need to go through a course. Third, mourning includes suffering experience necessarily. Likewise when people confront their sin, it makes them painful severely. Fourth, when mourning completes well, cognitive reorganization must appear. It means that if the problems of sin are dealt with in counseling, cognitive reorganization of the client is essential. Lastly, mourning sin means that clients realize that they are sinners and they have to live with identity of sinners.
