ABSTRACT

This is to clarify the spiritual support of Christian counseling approach to psycho-oncology. The research that studies and practices psychological support for cancer patients is also called ‘psycho-oncology’. Psycho-oncology is a new discipline, a rapidly expanding and widespread clinical practice field. Christian counseling should focus on psycho-oncology because spiritual support by a medical doctor is very flimsy. Spiritual support is intended to help patients who have cancer. It reduces anxiety/thanatophobia, improves their ability to overcome suffer from discomfort, reduces their loneliness, increases their willingness to cope with a cancer, and helps their psychological, emotional and social adjustment with family and others. Most of cancer patients have a psychological impact. Patients with cancer are asked the questions of theodicy. In addition, cancer patients think about God, spirituality, faith, heaven, transgression, punishment, and curse. Therefore, sufficient repentance of patients is the basis of spiritual support. The conviction of forgiveness after repentance is a necessary process of spiritual support. It is necessary to be able to accept cancer positively through spiritual reframing. Above all, it is important to have a firm grasp of the hope of the kingdom of God. This study highlights Christian counseling in psycho-oncology and emphasizes the need and importance of spiritual support for cancer patients.
