ABSTRACT

This study aims to develop a method for the construction of a theoretical framework in analyzing cities on the basis of a fundamental understanding of cities. Through the development of the method, we can obtain an insight of how we can analyze the urbanization the problems caused by it. First, the paper explores, using a historical approach, perceptions on theoretical methods of analyzing urban social structures. The historical approach is necessary because it helps understand physical and social infrastructures of the modern cities on the basis of major theories developed in each academic field to improve our understandings of the nature and the historical development of cities. Finally, the study provides us with a way of how we can overcome urban crisis we confront in the 21st century, and suggests a research direction in analyzing urban social structure.
