ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to examine the relation between personality types using MBTI(Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and conflict management of local government officials. The results of the survey were analyzed after conducting a survey of the public servants working in Jeonnam Provincial Office and Muan County Office. The findings of this study are as follows. First, the result of MBTI test is that there are more introversion(I) types than the extraversion(E); more sensing(S) types than the intuitive(N); more thinking(T) types than the feeling(F); and more judging(J) types than the perceiving(P). The three dominant personality types are ISTJ, ESTJ, and ISFJ. The major business styles are IS and ES. Second, according to conflict management, accommodating is the highest and the order of collaborating, compromising, avoiding, and competing. Third, in terms of personality preference indicator, E(extraversion) is significantly related to competing and collaborating, I(introversion) is to avoiding, and N(intuition) is to competing. T(thinking) and J(judging) is significantly related to compromising, to collaborating, and to accommodating respectively. In terms of business styles, EN(extraversion plus intuition) is more associated with competing than IS. There are differences in the management of conflict among the public servants depending on their personality types. These findings will greatly help future conflict management education and personnel administration.
