Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the influencing factors on the practice of standard precautions for infection control among healthcare workers in naval and marine medical units. Methods: This study is a descriptive study where 151 physicians, dentists, registered nurses, nursing assistants, medical technicians, and uncertified assistants were sampled to respond to a self-reporting questionnaire from July to October 2020. Results: The knowledge score had a significant difference among the licensed healthcare professional group, unlicensed but certified health workers group, and uncertified assistants group (F=12.35, p<.001). The practice score was significantly different between men and women (t=-3.85, p<.001). The safety climate score was found to have a positive correlation with the practice score (r=.23, p=.004). The multiple regression analysis presented that the safety climate score influenced the score of Standard Precautions practice (ß=.36, p=.005). The model explained 34.3% of Standard Precautions practice (F=7.06, p<.001). Conclusion: It is important to build a safe climate to promote healthcare workers’ practice of standard precautions in naval and marine medical units.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between knowledge, attitude, and preventive behaviors on emerging respiratory infectious disease among field-grade officers in Republic of Korea Army. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study included 194 participants who currently serving as field-grade officers. Data were collected by structured questionnaires and were analyzed through descriptive statistics, independent t-test, analysis of variance, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Knowledge, attitude, and preventive behaviors score related to emerging respiratory infectious disease were 8.42±1.25 points out of 11 points, 60.78±4.63 points out of 65 points, and 54.25±5.29 points out of 60points, respectively. There were strong positive correlations between knowledge, attitude, and preventive behaviors, despite no correlation between knowledge and attitude. Conclusion: Results of this study provided basic data for establishing health policy for the prevention and management of military infectious disease. To promote emerging respiratory infectious disease preventive behaviors, various education and methods should be considered to improve the knowledge of field-grade officers and change their attitude.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop gender education program focusing on enhancing sexual violence prevention for preliminary officers of South Korea. Methods: This methodological study was performed through 1) educational need assessment through related literature review and focus group interview among 6 senior cadets of a military academy in August of 2018, and 2) program development through validation of 10 experts in March of 2019. The data were analyzed with thematic analysis and content validity index. Results: In the focus group interview 11 sub-themes and 4 themes were extracted and the 4 themes were: ‘Public sex education with realistic effects’, ‘Gender knowledge based on gender understanding’, ‘Understanding of case handling for the eradication of sexual violence cases’, and ‘Understanding and respect between genders beyond conflict’. The developed sex education program for preliminary officers were composed of 6 themes (Gender respect, sexual harassment prevention, sexual violence prevention, prostitution prevention, bystander intervention, and action for problem solving) with 11 sessions using lectures, discussions, watching video clips, and role plays. Conclusion: The program was developed based on educational needs of cadets as future officers of the military. Therefore, it can be used as a cadet's sexuality education program applicable in reality and would have practical effects in the future.
