This thesis attempted to examine the background of the formation of the identity of Im Yunjidang and the process of establishment through yunjidangyugo. Yunjidangyugo contains 35 articles such as Jeon(傳), Non(論), Bal(跋), Seol(說), Jam (箴), Myeong(銘), Chan(贊), Jemun(祭). In the meantime, as research on Im Yunjidang(1721-1793) was actively conducted, his appearance as a Neo-Confucianist was revealed, and he was positioned as a female Neo-Confucianist in the late Joseon Dynasty. Since Yunjidangyugo contains articles in the order of time, the process of Yoonjidang’s solidification of identity is revealed through the articles contained in the collection. Therefore, this article tried to reveal the significance of anthology by paying attention to her early work and following her values and attitudes toward life. Through the first two stories of anthology, it was confirmed that the values of ‘morality’, ‘filial piet’, and ‘academic’ were regarded as important, and Yoon Ji-dang’s view of this value was continuously revealed in the anthology. Even if an adult refuses, an attitude to help others to ease the trouble, sincerity toward her husband, and doing something that pays back enemies to protect filial piety to her father can all be understood as the ‘filial piet as a political expediency’ shown in the following article. It can be seen that Yunji-dang’s writings recognize that it is not the virtue of the women to cultivate and record studies, but still reveal himself as writing. Yoonji-dang’s writing is straight󰠀forward and critical. She does not say her thoughts indirectly but expresses her thoughts without hesitation. In other words, Yunjidang shows his values and attitudes toward his life through Yunjidangyugo, which contains 35 episodes. The early two articles show what values Yoonjidang had in his childhood, and the women’s view, values of morality and filial piety, and interest in academic inquiry are confirmed through the articles contained in Yoonjidangyugo. Yoonjidang is not a process of changing his identity through the twists and turns of life, but shows the aspect of maintaining and solidifying his identity even in the twists and turns of life. Her anthology is a practical product that actively records Yoonjidang’s values.

A study on the similarity of inter-regional transmission trends of oral tales using text mining

This paper analyzed the similarities in the inter-regional transmission trends of oral tales handed down in nine regions using two data collections, 『Comprehensive Korean Oral Literature』 and 『Complementary Edition of Comprehensive Korean Oral Literature』. To this end, we used text mining techniques to go through the analysis process of “data collection → local information pre-processing → regional narrative analysis → visualization”. First, 26,542 tale title data were collected from the digital archive of 〈Comprehensive Korean Oral Literature〉, and regional information that was not organized into administrative districts at the “province” level was preprocessed. The data was then divided into nine regions, and these data were again classified based on the year of recording. Next, the corpus morphemes created by collecting only titles from the preprocessed data were analyzed to extract the top 100 frequencies of nouns by region. Then, the extracted noun frequencies were normalized to accurately compare the proportion of oral speech between regions. The distribution of stories between regions was compared by calculating the cosine similarity between regions using the normalization value calculated here. This targeted 384 nouns extracted from 『Comprehensive Korean Oral Literature』 and 435 nouns from 『Complementary Edition of Comprehensive Korean Oral Literature』. The results derived through the analysis process were presented through a word cloud for each of the nine regions, the numbers of cosine similarity values between regions, and data visualizing the cosine similarity values on a map. The results indicate that, excluding Jeju, narratives transmitted in the Gyeonggi region show relatively low similarity with those of other regions, making it the most heterogeneous in terms of transmission tendencies across the nation in 『Comprehensive Korean Oral Literature』. On the other hand, in the 『Complementary Edition of Comprehensive Korean Oral Literature』 the regions of Chungcheongbuk-do and Jeollabuk-do exhibit the most heterogeneous transmission tendencies, with Gyeonggi region showing a relatively higher similarity with other regions.

The Research on the Relationship Between the 8 Articles of ‘Daehak’ and the 8 celestial women

This thesis seeks to examine how the characters in ‘Guunmong’ such as the main character, who is both Sung-Jin and So-Yu and his counterpart, who are both the 8 celestial women and the 8 wives in the current life, form a relationship with the 8 articles, and how they may be compared and symbolized in terms of literature. In other words, the thesis aims to analyze how the 8 articles of ‘Daehak’ can be interpreted through their substitution as the 8 celestial women. The author views that ‘Guunmong’ symbolically illustrates the 8 articles of ‘Daehak’ through the chain of process of Yang, So-Yu and the 8 celestial women forging a relationship. Through this, the author seeks to examine how the study of Confucian classics and literature study were substituted through comparison and symbolism and had the role of a detailed report. and whether they can be interpreted abundantly. Kim, Man-jung is a typical Confucian scholar who grew up in a Confucian family environment. In the East, literature and thought are complementary or integral relations rather than individual relationships. Since this is the case, this kind of idea could be expressed by whatever means in his novel ‘Guunmong’. If we were to look from this sort of meaning, the 8 people are chosen and intended as the 8 people by Kim, Man-Jung as the 8 articles, and the 8 articles that he sought to express are projected onto the specific individual personality. This thesis sees that this is intentionally expressed as the symbols of the 8 articles of ‘Daehak’ and attempts to trace and analyze this theory. Most likely, there must be a message for the Confucian scholar Kim, Man-jung, who has been equipped with the knowledge of Confucian classics, to convey through ‘Guunmong’ which is the work of literature that illustrated three religions, which are Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. In this way, by comparing the 8 celestial women of ‘Guunmong’ with the 8 articles of ‘Daehak’, I hope to propose a new research direction about ‘Guunmong’ and Kim, Man-jung, and the combining of Kim, Man-jung’s literature and Confucian classics.

Multilayers of Masculinities and Male Gender Practice in the ‘Hwejeol Fiction(Stories about Men Breaking His Faith)’ of the Late Joseon Dynasty

In the late Joseon Dynasty, a group of novels called ‘Hwejeol Fiction(Stories about Men Breaking His Faith)’ appeared. They shared the narrative that the heterosexual sexuality of the male character is confirmed through tests. This narrative means the process of confirming the heterosexual sexuality of individual men and granting them membership in the homosocial communities. This work was examined the homosocial between mens through three works of Hwejeol Fiction: ‘Jibong-jeon’, ‘Oyuran-jeon’, and ‘Samseon-gi’. First, in ‘Jibong-jeon’, a dominant man who rejects heterosexual sexuality and has the potential to discord with homosocial standards appears as the main character. In this text, as the relationship between the dominant men is focused, the virtue of the public relationship between them is particularly emphasized to sustain the male bond. The dominant male protagonist never becomes profanity in the process, and is embraced into the community after the interruption. Next, in ‘Oyuran-jeon’, an immature man who pursues hegemonic masculinity appears. The narrative deals with the process of growing these immature men into true dominant men. He grows up with the help of men in private relationships such as family and friends, and in the process, a humorous episode in which they are shown there naked bodies. At the end of the narrative, they transforms into a being who embodies full hegemonic masculinity and lives happily as a member of the homosocial community. Lastly, ‘Samseon-gi’ is distinguished from the previous two types in that it shows the practice of a newly adjusted ‘alternative masculinity’ rather than actively incorporating into the homosociality by breaking personal beliefs. Here, women have much more active voices and self-awareness than in the previous two types. Since the gender practice of the male protagonist poses the greatest threat to the maintenance of male same-sex society, unlike other narratives, hostile forces that block him appear, showing explicit hostility toward the protagonist. In the end, the protagonist is not fully incorporated into the existing homosocial society but is incorporated into a different world. The fact that most of these narratives written in Chinese characters, have been mainly enjoyed between male readers. It suggests that the enjoyment of narratives itself can be an practice for male readers’ homosocial solidarity. The existence of a long-running these narratives clearly reveals that the concept of masculinity, which on the other hand seems to be a firm power, is only a fragile component that is constantly challenged, but it also has great implications today in that it also tells us how difficult and can have a great influence on the existing male model holding hegemony.

This research aims to identify certain similarities in the narrative structure between Korean Full-length novels and romance web novels, with the purpose of proposing a methodology for the modern utilization and popularization of Korean full-length novels. To achieve this, the narrative elements of Korean Full-length novels and romance web novels were divided into internal and external aspects for examination of their similarities. Firstly, it was highlighted that both genres share a similarity in focusing on the theme of ‘marriage’ in the progression of events. While a significant portion of classical novels deals with ‘marriage,’ it is challenging to find cases in Korean short novels where ‘marriage’ is placed at the center, driving diverse and complex narratives. Therefore, the similarity in narrative development centered around ‘marriage’ is considered a crucial measure. Additionally, setting up an idealized character with perfection in both internal and external aspects is a commonality between the two genres. Particularly, the detailed portrayal of the character’s internal and external facets shows a high degree of similarity between the two types. The use of Jaebeol or wealthy families as a major background is another shared aspect. Although the utilization of chaebol in Korean short novels may differ from setting wealthy families in romance web novels, the commonality lies in the foregrounding of these backgrounds. Externally, the research found similarity in the use of a serialized creative approach and the appeal to a female audience as a niche consumer group. Korean short novels are characterized by their serialized nature, while romance web novels also feature ‘series’ In conclusion, Korean short novels exhibit a high degree of similarity in narrative structure, both internally and externally, with romance web novels. Consequently, it is confirmed that the narrative grammar of romance web novels can be utilized as a strategy for the modern utilization and popularization of Korean full-lngth novels.

The acceptance pattern and meaning of classical narratives in the web novel 〈Joseon Fox Scandal〉

This study examined the acceptance of classical narratives in the web novel 〈Chosun Fox Scandal〉, which was serialized on Naver Web Novel, and examined the meaning of the acceptance of multiple classical narratives in the web novel 〈Chosun Fox Scandal〉. The web novel 〈Joseon Fox Scandal〉 is unique in that it arranges multiple classical narrative works in an omnibus format through the setting that the divine beast that fox inspector Siho goes to retrieve is actually an animal that appears in classical narratives. The 19 types of classical narratives, including old novels and folk tales, included in the work are centered on stories about Siho’s performance a royal inspector, accounting for more than 48% of the total volume. The story of Siho’s performance as a royal inspector consists of a repetition of the structure of ‘the end of one divine beast problem = the end of one classic episode’. So readers can enjoy the classic narrative while reading the story dealing with the divine beast problem. Among the 19 types of classical narratives accepted in the work, 1 is a classic narrative that is almost the same depending on the degree of variation, 4 are those in which the common narrative for each classical epic is maintained and only the characters that appear are replaced with characters from the work. In addition, there is one that accepts motifs from classical narratives and one that uses classical narratives as a component of the spatial background. There are 12 stories created by the author by accepting part of the common narrative for each classical narrative. The changes utilized a variety of methods, from taking the work almost as is to taking parts of the work and then having the author add content that did net exist. In terms of content, characters who commit evil deeds and their punishment were emphasized in 14 of the 18 episodes, excluding the one that adopted a classical narrative as its spatial background. The acceptance of the classic narrative of the web novel 〈Joseon Fox Scandal〉 first created a ‘cider’ narrative of the web novel by emphasizing punishment in an old story familiar to readers. At this time, since the problems inherent in evil deeds are repeated in the present, the emphasis on punishment in the story can provide vicarious satisfaction to the readers. Second, using classical narratives, it shows the appearance of a divine beast who is frustrated while complying with fate, and a human being who actively pioneers destiny. Therefore, along with the ending, presents the appearance of a character who has achieved a transition from a divine beast to a human being, it contributed to emphasizing the importance of human will in creating one’s own life and destiny in a finite life.
