AB - This paper aims to examine the desire of the genre in season 1, a genre of mystery, historical drama, We take notice of the fact that season 1 is composed of three layers, 'inference, history, and drama'. Generally, the historical dramas showed the jealousy and love triangle among King, Queen and king's concubines, and the enmities among King and vassal within the palace.
season 1, however, arouses an unusual interest by applying a contemporary detective narrative on the existing historical drama frame. We also note that the 'detective story' has much to do with history n . This means that the detective’s view has something in common with the historian’s view: that is, the work to reconstruct the present from the past. In a similar vein, it is considered that the detective story and history as an activity that inquire and analyze the past, and arrange the past in the present.
is a work stimulated by of an American TV drama. Especially, the drama represents a feeling of national anxiety of 21st century by using material for late in the 19th century in an indirect way. and talks about the period of 1896 in the Korean Empire referring to of American tv drama. There is no difference in the technic of camera, process of arresting the criminal, dramatic functions between two dramas translated the 'past' into the 'present'. It leaves the symptom of feticism or visual schizophrenia catching a glimpse of spectacles of Korean Empire in 1896. Especially this paper takes note of the 'fast motion sequence' and 'split screen effects' The former means the camera technic of running the film quickly which is a expression of visual desire for showing secret and origin and covertness. The latter means that the eyes of symbolize the desire of camera of Crime Scene Investigation.
In the same vein, it is said that is a object which can be understood as ''representation≒commodity". The drama translates into Korean mood and translate the past into the present. What's truly remarkable about the drama is that the drama otherizes the past of 1896 in Korean Empire.
