Ham Seduck had continuously modified his published plays in accordance with situation changes in the era, performing process, his own internal desire etc. Chuchang Isabella was published in 「National literature」 in March 1942, which was performed at the “Sungbo music theater(성보악극대)”, yet, its edition version hasn't been known. Chuchang Isabella had been modified and published at 「National literature」 in May of 1945 as a Japanese drama play, balidokihang<バーリ島紀行>. In addition, even the advertisement was printed at the same magazine mentioning that this play would be performed as a foundation performance of the theater company “Hope constellation”. The foundation performance of the theater company “Hope constellation(희망좌)” was Evergreen island which had been staged for 7 days starting from Aug, 6th to 12th according to the ads in 「Mail Newspaper」. At the advertisement, it was written that it was published at 「National literature」 so it could be deduced that Sangrokdo was a modified version of balidokihang.
Chuchang Isabella which was published in March 1942 at 「National literature」, ended when the Japanese troops' begun landing. But balidokihang which was written in 1945 when Japan had full control over all Indonesia, Japanese Military were presented directly as relief troops so that it expressively promoted the grandeur and role of the Japanese military.
However, the relationship between people of the colonization, who can't easily agree with Japanese, the Salvation Army and dominant Japanese colonial power was exposed directly in this work. Extreme exploitation of the colonies, brutal violence against the colonial civilians were symbolized directly on the stage, and it fully shows life-or-death's resistance and conflicts. At that time, the ability of Korean audiences' decoding Japanese was negligible. If so, it has a very high possibility that it was roughly understood by the dramatic situation and action rather than the exact dramatic understanding. Even if it was not so, watching Balinese was unjustly being deprived, tortured and killed in the drama closely reminding the colonial reality itself in Korea. In addition, actors' bodies featuring as Balinese were very beautiful and gorgeous who also were performing lots of folk music and traditional dances. Beautiful figures of colonial people and their tradition also reminding us of Chosun's cultures and tradition.
