ABSTRACT

Sentimentalism of Chosun-Theater revealed for the first time when people experienced a chain of the expectation and frustration for post-colonial probability following the 3․1 Movement. Its crucial factor was the political-economic condition by colonial censorship system. Chosun theater was obliged to find a reality of emotion getting by the form of excess. This was charged with a resistance of all pressure from the outside, a defense mechanism for self-preservation. The emotion of this time became another theatrical messages, expressed a valuation about something important to ‘me’. In sentimentalism of Chosun Theater, however a centrality of compassion finally was a result from censorship system, it is a important point that colonists transferred emotion property from colonial censorship system and then tried to preserve themselves by the ethical attitude of compassion. But depending on conversion into a war basis, the course of emotion control should change once more. Sentimentalism still was dominated Chosun Theater. However, it of this time was not necessarily the same. Park Youngho’s National Theater was in cases that we were able to reread the emotional realm as a ethical value of empathy and a resistor system. The Wilde Boar[산돼지] is a drama of compassion for non-nation. This drama emphasizes the importance of paying attention to the value of others life. The Waterbirds[물새] reveals a discord with violent pseudo-nation by drawing emotional concentric circle from the narrative of women’s sufferings. Park Young-Ho, instead of following a normal way of sentimentalism, expressed the denial of political realism in emotion.
