This paper aims to deal with the problem of reality and illusion hidden in the work by reading the TV drama The King 2 Hearts from the viewpoint of the alternative history. Alternative history is a genre that overthrows reality by making history self-conscious. Therefore, if we deal with the reality and fantasy of The King 2 Hearts through alternative history, we can understand one aspect of reality perception through TV drama. The TV drama The King 2 Hearts is somewhat problematic as a popular theater that can grasp reality recognition. The first is to use alternative history to construct a new melodrama. It is at the center of the narrative of the melodrama of the royal family of South Korea and the female military officer of the North with regard to the setting of the participation of the independence movement of the Joseon royal family continuously. But, their love affair is not merely an individual problem, but rather a distinction from other types of melodrama in that it is connected to the problems of the nation and the people. These narratives consist of a contradiction between the 'royal' fantasy and 'division' reality. If the royal family of South Korea is a result of fantasy as an alternative history, the problem of division of the two Koreas is a real reality. However, this real problem can not be overturned in the fact that reality is distorted due to the unrealistic relationship between political power and economic power. The TV drama The King 2 Hearts deals with our reality through a rather popular technique called alternative history. But the combination of reality and fantasy has faded the merits of fantasy. This is because the illusion has not been utilized in the way of overturning in the positive direction of reality. Thus, The King 2 Hearts takes a conservative stance that conceals reality through fantasy and reveals a desire for a strong nation.
