ABSTRACT

This study analyzed how the difference between critical reading and writing patterns of proficient college writers and inexperienced high school writers influences the academic writing process. Using the reading and writing analysis tool(Table 2), I analyzed 120 high school students and 120 college students on a 7-point scale. The results of the correlation analysis of the critical reading and writing scale items and the writing quality evaluation results showed that the critical reading - writing quality evaluation results(r=.766) and the critical writing - writing quality evaluation results(r=.947). Critical writing and the evaluation of the writing quality showed a strong correlation, thus emphasizing the importance of critical writing. As a result of the regression analysis, independent variables such as critical reading and critical writing showed 94.8% of the explanatory power on the dependent variable, which is the evaluation result of the writing quality. The results of analyzing the integrated writing style of the author’s author and inexperienced author’s critical reading materials are as follows. Experienced writers more than doubled the number of reading materials(5.41) compared to the inexperienced writers(2.10), and the number of references was also greater than that of the mature writers(940.15) compared to the inexperienced writers(345.28). It has been confirmed that the skilled writers utilize a variety of writing materials when they write criticized texts compared to the inexperienced writers. Compared to the inexperienced author writing in the form of abstracts, the skilled authors have utilized various variations and integration methods. 58.6% of the respondents were able to confirm that independent variable such as phrase substitution, paragraph swapping, and integrated word usage influenced the dependent variable, which is the quality of writing score. As a result of comparing and analyzing the characteristics of the rewriting process based on peer evaluation based on a good college student writer and an inexperienced high school student writer, it was revealed that the proficient college writers are complicatedly intertwined with the social network structure to read and write. On the other hand, in the case of the inexperienced high school writers, the social network structure was monotonous in isolation. Critical reading and writing are the most important literary activities in the academic writing process. It is necessary to thoroughly study teaching methods and strategies for high school and university authors.
