ABSTRACT

This thesis concerns single Yeogkwa Bangmok of Japkwa Bangmok which is the list of the names of those that passed in the examination for selection of senior technical officers during the days of Chosun dynasty. Through this study, bibliographical comparative analysis of two archives, Wonbang and Yeogkwa Bangmok which are in possession of Kyujangkag in Korea and Sayeogkwon Bangmokg which is in possession of Harvard-Yenching Library in the US. The result of analysis is as follows. (1) Yeogkwa Bangmok of Kyujangkag has the longest period record. (2) In terms of titles and indication of years of examination, Wonbang of Kyujangkag is taking more independent approach. (3) Harvard archives contain the most abundant content in terms of record relating to exam execution. (4) In terms of record of exam execution, Yeogkwa Bangmok of Kyujangkag has the most abundant record relating to exam auditors. (5) In terms of record of number of successful applicants, Harvard's archive is more substantial in total number of successful applicants, while Yeogkwa Bangmok of Kyujangkag is more substantial in number of successful applicants by grade-points. (6) As a result of comparative analysis of three archives in terms of number of successful candidates actually showing in the profiles of each of them, there finds out discrepancy between each of these archives. (7) As a result of analysis of the list of names of successful candidates recorded in their actual profile, there finds out the significant discrepancy between three archives. The above analysis shows little room for cross-reference between three archives. This is judged to result from the publication of each archive through different courses and transcription of these archives by a number of different people.
