AB - National Museum of Korea(NMK) possesses various kinds of printing types which have been taken over from Japanese Colonial Administration Museum in 1945. The purpose of this article is to classify and define the Hangul printing types in the collection of NMK.The results are as follows. The Hangul metal printing type turns out to be so called ‘Hangul metal printing type in combination with Musin character’ which has been cast between 1668 and 1695. Among the existing old printing types, it is not only one of earliest metal printing types of Joseon dynasty but also the only Hangul metal printing type. The ‘Hangul wood printing types’ can be divided into three categories. The first includes ‘Hangul wood printing type in combination with Musin character’. It has also been used to print Sokmyeonguirokeonhae and Yujungoedaesosinseoyuneum together with Imjin character and Jeongyu character. The second one is ‘Hangul wood printing type in combination with Hugigyoseogwaninseoche character’ which has been used in the printing of Jungsumuwonrokenhae in 1782. The third one is ‘Hangul wood printing type in combination with Chozujeongli character’ which has been used with Chozujeongli character. It has been caved for the printing of Oryunhaengsildo in 1795-1797. So we can call it ‘Oryunhaengsildohangul character’. This printing type has been regarded as not existing. However, this article reveals its existence for the first time.
