ABSTRACT

This thesis concerns the names of successful applicants in the 19th century. Through this study, comparative analysis of 3 kinds of Yeogkwa Bangkmok including Wonbang and Yeogkwa Bangmok possed by Kyujangkag and Sayeogkwon Bangmok possessed by Harvard-Yenching Library) and 4 kinds of Yeogkwa Bo (archives possessed by Kyujangkag, Myoung Ji University Library, Yonsei University Library, and Jangseokag) were made. The result of the analysis is as follows.1) As a result of comparison between Yeogkwa Bangmok and Yeogkwa Bo and comparison between each Yeogkwa Bo in terms of difference in records, most of successful applicants' names shown in the above archieves correspond to those shown in Yeogkwa Bangmok possed by Kyujangkag (including the cases of correspondence to Sayeogkwon Bangmok possessed by Harvard-Yenching Library).2) In the cases of no record found in Yeogkwa Bo, for example, Kap Oh-shik's Kim Nak-hwe (1834) and in the cases of names of successful applicants showing additional records or difference in record between Yeogkwa Bos, there is need for further study and clarification.3) Yeokwa Bagkmok of Kyujangkag archive provides relatively more accurate information than any other Yeogkwa Bangmoks, implying that the information of Sayeogkwon Bangmok possessed by Harvard-Yenching Library might have been based on that of the third data.
