ABSTRACT

This study investigates the textual bibliographical achievements of Yi Deok-Mu(李德懋), also called Cheong-jang-gwan(靑莊館), who was a great scholar and writer in the late Joseon period, based on the collection of his writings, titled <Cheong-jang-gwan Chonso>. With an ample knowledge about literature acquired from extensive reading, and the influence of textual criticism of the Ch'ing Dynasty, Yi Deok-Mu left a lot of achievements in the field of textual bibliography. This study explores his personal view about textual bibliography and analyzes the cases of his actual textual bibliographical works on both the letters and phrases and the texts. In the textual bibliography of the letters and phrase, he corrected the errors of letters and phrases in personal names and geographical names from history books, dictionaries, and general books. In the textual bibliography of the texts, he corrected the errors of the texts of the Confucian classics, history books, and other books.
