ABSTRACT

The purpose of this textual bibliographical study is to analyze the text of Gwangguk-jigyeong-rok, with the focus on its contents and editions. The major findings are as follows:Gwangguk-jigyeong-rok is a collection of congratulatory poems, which had published at 1588(21st year of King Sunjo's reign) to celebrate the settlement of "Jong Gye Byun Moo" which means the clarification of the royal genealogy of the Joseon Dynasty. These collections were published three times from wood blocks, based on the manuscript by King Sunjo. The first and second versions of Gwangguk-jigyeong-rok were released in 1703(29th year of King Sookjong's reign) and 1744(20th year of King Youngjo's reign), respectively. The exact publication date of the final revised version of Gwangguk-jigyeong-rok is unknown, but assumed to be published, based on second version, by the descendents of You Hong’s family in the early period of King Jeongjo. A textual comparison of the final version of Gwangguk-jigyeong-rok with other two previous versions shows more than 180 differences in words and phrases. The wood blocks of the revised edition of Gwangguk-jigyeong-rok were designated as the tangible cultural assets of Chungbuk Province.
