ABSTRACT

This research is about the origin, characteristics and use of “Bakmyunji” since the late Joseon Dynasty. Bakmyunji is as white and sheeny as Bakchuji known as the Korean traditional paper in the earlier period. The name came from its silk or cotton-like quality and it is approximately the size of 50.23×35.88㎝. It was generally used for presenting to the kings of the Joseon Dynasty or to the emperors of China, and making the high-quality bookpapers, the wallpapers of summer palaces and “Bueiji”(paper for wrapping the dead bodies).
