AB - This paper contains the study on Munsu-Choesangseung-Musaenggyecheop(文殊最上乘無生戒牒) written on indigo papers with silver dust characters manufactured in the 13th year of King Chungsook(忠肅王 13年, 1326), which is the third year of Taejeong(泰定 3年). Munsu-Choesangseung-Musaenggyecheop is a very important material backing up the record of the History of Goryeo that Chigong(指空), an Indian Monk, taught the religious precept of no life to the four classes of public for two years and seven months during which he was staying in Goryeo. I would say that the meaning in the art history of this buddhist manuscript is very significant as Myodeok-Gyecheop(妙德戒牒) among the three existing Musaenggyecheop(無生戒牒) was manufactured in the earliest time and remains in the perfect condition.
Thus, I intended to look into the system and phenomena of buddhist manuscript of Myodeok-Gyecheop and identify the characteristics of styles of the cover-page illustration, transformation picture and chirography thereof through comparison with other Goryeo buddhist manuscripts. Also, for the prayer, I tried to identify the intrinsic value of this buddhist manuscript by attempting investigation of the author of the prayer and comparative analysis with other two existing Musaenggyecheop. I wish this kind of Gyecheop to be found continuously in the future, and will make the in-depth research on the author of the prayer a research project in the future.
