AB - This study investigated the academic values of the titles based upon book annotations included in Gyujang-chongmok, or the Annotated Classified Bibliography of Books in Gaeyuwa, a library of Gyujanggak, Joseon Dynasty that held books printed in China. This paper examined various types of evaluative methods adopted in Gyujang-chongmok, and then compare them to the modern general library criteria of book selection. Analyzing the nature of the catalog and the particular historical situation, the academic qualities of books listed in Gyujang-chongmok are even more excellent than the modern criteria for good books.
