The Study of Gwijin-sa and Buddhist Scriptures Published by Gwijin-sa

This study tried to note Gwijin-sa(歸眞寺) which is a temple at Mt. Goduk on Seoheung, Hwang-hae Province and the Buddhist scriptures published by Gwijin-sa. Especially, this study aimed on the culture historical value of Gwijin-sa on Buddhism. First, this study examined Gwijin-sa’s historical concept, especially the relation of Gwijin-sa and Seongsu-sa(星宿寺), because these temples published Buddhist scriptures at the same time. Second, bibliographical features are examined by researching Buddhist scriptures directly. Gwijin-sa published twelve Buddhist scriptures and ten scriptures are remained. Third, this study was focus on the value of Gwijin-sa by examining Buddihist scriptures’ special features. The most distinguished feature of Buddhist scriptures published by Gwijin-sa is that this temple had a connection with famous monks such as Bou(普雨). These monks played a central role in Buddhism during king Myeongjong period in Joseon Dynasty. The result of study shows that Gwijin-sa was quite prosperous during king Myeongjong and this temple especially concentrated on publishing Buddhist scriptures. In addition, through Buddhist scriptures, this study could confirm that famous monks who played a important role in Buddhism such as Bou had influence on Gwijin-sa’s publishing and managing.
