AB - TyeonRoRyeokDyeong is the title of first edition translated PartⅠ of John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s progress into Korean by Gale couple. TyeonRoRyeokDyeong was published two type in 1895. The woodblock edition was printed on Korean paper by the Trilingual Press in Seoul and the new metal edition was printed on modern Chinese paper in Shang-hai. These are classical work published by printing methods of Korean and the West. Both editions were illustrated with forty-two of charming line-drawings by a Wonsan artist, Kim Jun-geun. So far, we couldn’t see so many Korean-style line-drawings inserted in a book in publishing history of Korea. I inspected the woodblock and the woodblock edition besides the new metal edition of first edition, find out publication method and the identity of both editions. Both editions may be classed as the woodblock edition of high prices for foreigners and the new metal edition of low price for Koreans. There is another important fact that engraved line-drawings after cutting the woodblock in half.
