ABSTRACT

The birth of modern love- Focusing on Kim soweol's love poems Kwon, JungwooThere is all the difference between the traditional form of love and modern form of love. It is found out by comparing medieval love poems with Kim soweol's love poems. In traditional form of love, gisaeng's love is perfect love, best combination of courtly love and passionate love and romantic love. But it is unreal. Love of Married women in good family is also different with modern love in that it is waiting a bygone lover. In Kim soweol's love poems, the love is real in those days. And large percentage of his love poems are not love song but elegy as Korean traditional poetry. Kim soweol's love is virginal. It is a kind of passionate love removed sexual appetite. He pursues forever love to a bygone lover. Double standard is not found in Kim soweol's love poems because virginal love is not related with sexual discrimination. Virginal love has some problems that it can not be continued for a long time and recognition of love bring about ruin of love. None the less it is worthwhile in that it's motive is pure and it is the original form of love.
