ABSTRACT

This study is aimed to re-examine the arguments around the re-orientation of the KAPF. The re-orientation had been so far approached either in terms of critical history or by the sorting out of participants’ theoretical positions on particular issues. However, the former approach is not entitled to be called a proper study of this matter; the latter has a corresponding weakness in that it shows no significant differences among the participants. The alleged thesis of “reorientation” sprang from the recognition that now was the time of struggle. Thinking that the new tendencious literary form was unable to play an adequate role for the time of struggle, those left-leaning writers demanded new artistic forms that would facilitate commitment to the political struggle. In short, they aimed to develop a logic combining art and literature with the political struggle. They faced many problems. To mention a few, the relationship of the artistic particularity to the political struggle; the class movement and allied national front; the relationship between the class movement and the artistic movement. However, they did not develop any convincing logics to solves those problems. Furthermore, failure to provide successful literary works that corresponded to their theories of the second phase shows that the thesis was no more than an empty rhetoric that led to no real practice.
