AB - Seo Jeong-In follows hisown line of literature from 1962, selecting short story「hoo-song」in『Sa-sang-ge』, to now. He has literary changes for several times and many good results. However he has been writing for a long time, so it's hard to understand his whole line of literature at one time. Especially, there is a wide difference for making technique and meaning between hisearlier works from strong existentialism and later primary works(after 1980's). Focusing changes of his stories is important to understand his own world, but this study is for finding his earlier works' distinct features before that work.
As I said, his earlier stories have influence from existentialism which was big part of postwar Korean literature. Hisearlier stories are particularly influenced by existentialism. It takes an ambiguous and divided attitude, so it is not concrete. Afterward, later works are starting for the change which is lethargic and intuitive earlier subjects. He structuralize epistemological scene in his stories for making subject. This feature shows his short stories that she wrote from 1960s to 1970s, so it is the matter of concernment in this study. Particularly, I'm going to find that studying his earlier works' consistent pattern of narration is how related to making characters' relationship and meaning.
There are many beginnings with encountering strangers at strange place in hisearlier stories. Those scenes are made changes by conversation and event and finding the change is not only theirs but also writer's. First of all, I'm going to examine there are two parts in his story structure of narration which are replaying outing and relating with strangers. Next, I'm going to find how the structure intervenes subject's making.
He is representative of 1960's writer who has great works continually which is his own way to drawing isolated intellect and their inside. He has experimental technique and elaborated plans to face with modern subject's lonely side. There are clearly two images to encounter strangersthat one is confirming cold-hearted world and the other is securing unexpected hearted one. It gives shape to process getting subject's inside into stranger. There are two forms that healing or deepening subject's split personality. Using writer's duplicity view of the world, I'm going to trace to expose writer's view of the world from structure of narration and relation with characters.
