ABSTRACT

Through Toam’s unique religious experience, Geumgang-daedo’s Gyeong- cheon (Heaven Worshiping) thoughts that honor heaven have appeared (顯現). Thus, the relationship of ‘heaven and earth = Sangje = Geon’gon-Bumo’ was established, and it can be seen that it is also consistent with the concept of the Tao (道), a philosophical concept. These unique Gyeongcheon thoughts have since been repeated through Geumgang-daedo’s rituals. At first, Toam was clearly distinguished from Jade‐Emperor Sangje, and as he was gradually deified, he seems to have been integrated with Jade‐Emperor Sangje. As such, there is strong heaven worship, or Gyeongcheon thoughts, at the base of Cheonje and Chiseong rituals. The usual rituals of Geumgang-daedo are divided into Chiseong and Jehyang. Chiseong is celebrated on the birthday of the Three Masters and Jehyang is the memorial of the day the Three Masters died. At the main office located in Sejong City, there are about 20 general assembly days a year, and Chiseong and Jehyang are performed, and a small‐scale general assembly is held once a month according to local circumstances at the headquarters, branch, and halls at home and abroad. The general assembly of the main office is centered around birthdays and the death days of the Four Masters. The appearance of collective rituals can be examined through a rally called ‘general assembly’, and the basic spirit is based on ‘euiseong (義誠)’ in all respects. The rituals of Geumgang-daedo are, in a word, the acting expression of uiseong thought. In other words, it is a gesture to try to trust the Geon’gon-bumo with the utmost confidence and to pass on its mentality. Chung-hyo-seong- gyeong (faithfulness, filial piety, sincerity and respect: 忠孝誠敬) and gahwa (familial harmony, 家和), cheonggyeol (cleanliness, 淸潔) are the practical ethics that are filled with euiseong.
