ABSTRACT

This paper examines the global historical development of integral ecology. In 1995. The term "integral ecology" has appeared in various contexts  as Pope Francis advocated ‘integral ecology’ in 『Laudato Si’』. The current global crisis clearly shows that the total relationship between humans and nature. humans and nonhumans is being destroyed. Integral ecology is an academic transformation to seek a sustainable earth community based on the whole earth thinking that the earth. humans. nature. and all things are a community with a common destiny of the Earth. There are integral ecology in the West and South America. and life movement based on Life Studies in Korea. Integral ecology in the West is an academic shift that attempts to integrate human ecology. social ecology. and environmental ecology with the awareness that the current global crisis cannot be solved with a single point of view. The purpose of integral ecology. which is being developed centered on liberation theologians Leonardo Beauf and Pope Francis. is the liberation of humans and the earth. As such. in the West and South America. if the change of study and practice was developed centering on integral ecology. in Korea. the thinking of integral ecology can be found in Life Studies and life movement. Furthermore. if the previous discourse on peace meant the relationship between human and human. the state and the state. the peace discourse began to expand as life and peace were combined in the context of a global ecological crisis. The point of contact with the global historical development of integrated ecology is that it is a global peace movement that seeks for the coexistence and peace of the earth and all living things on the earth.
