AB - This is a qualitative study examining the Won-Buddhist ministers-in-training(MIT)’s awareness and concerns about ‘seeing one’s nature.’ Seeing one’s nature is very important in the practice of Won Buddhism. Seeking and mastering The Truth has always been emphasized as important factors for the education of Won-Buddhist MITs, however seeing one’s nature has rarely been investigated at all. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the opinions and experiences about seeing one’s nature and to get implications for the education of MITs. For this purpose, a focus group was formed and interviews were conducted with MITs to collect their opinions and experiences. A total of 15 participants were divided into two groups. Through in-depth interviews, data was collected and analyzed. As a result of the data, four themes, ten categories, and forty-five subcategories were presented. The four themes were ‘Understanding seeing one’s nature’ ‘Characters of the person who saw one’s nature’ ‘Making an effort to seeing one’s nature’ ‘Ways to help students to see one’s nature.’ The results were presented and interpreted. The results of this study provided three implications for education for MITs. That is to say, it is important to help MITs truly take an invested interest in seeing one’s nature, to offer MITs many opportunities to talk and reflect upon The Truth with open mindedness, and to play the part of a good teacher while in search for The Truth. It is expected that the results of this study will invoke deep concern for seeing one’s nature and entice interest to further research the topic.
