ABSTRACT

This study is about developing new movement with the application of ‘no-reason form’ from Taoism of Lao-Tzu and Chuang-Tzu. The new movement expresses the ‘principle of tao’with motif of the sea to present the concept of‘tao’that cannot be expressed in language. The objective of this study is to expand the realm of Korean dance via developing new composition and movements based on Taoism of Lao-Tzu and Chuang-Tzu. Especially, each movement has been composed based on the features of tao’s motility, indeterminacy, correspondency, and circularity, in order to logically present the theoretical evidence. This study examines on how main motility principle of ‘no-reason form’ is applied on dance movement. The significance of this study is the expansion of Korean dance movement through visualization of Lao-Tzu and Chuang-Tzu’s Taoism in creative dance work.
