ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was not only to search and study about the Seoul Dance Project of the UrbanRegeneration Projects of Seoul City and Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, but also to discuss theirroles and limits to understand the meanings of public space. Method of this study of investigates relatedbooks, papers, live performances, videos. As a result of the study, the Seoul Dance Project and the Urban Regeneration Projects of Seoul City hadthe same missions as Happy Urban Life, Restoration of Community, as well as Social Communication andIntegration. In the case of the Urban Regeneration Projects of Seoul City, it focused on providing placesto ensure the life quality of Seoul citizens, while the Seoul Dance Project focused on providing a field forthe participation of Seoul citizens. Thus, these two projects had a common role to create spaces whichpublicity and community made. However, they had limits to prepare a public sphere, make autonomousenvironments, keep the continuity and durability as a community.
