Abstract: Compared with conventional adsorption-based coloration, the photoreactions of dyes such as photo-copolymerization and photo-crosslinking under UV irradiation can be employed for the coloration of textiles, which can be carried out without salt addition at room temperature. C.I. Reactive Black 5, a homo-bifunctional reactive dye containing two sulfatoethylsulfone groups, is used as a photo-reactive dye for wool fibers. Upon UV irradiation, the photo-reactive dye was grafted onto wool fabrics without photoinitiators. Since the disulfide bonds in the cystine residues of wool can be easily photodecomposed to active thiyl radicals which initiate the polymerization, the dye can be polymerized to an oligomeric dye of a degree of polymerization of 12 or more. The grafted fabrics reached a grafting yield of 2.3% o.w.f. and a color yield (K/S) of 18.2 by the photografting of an aqueous dye concentration of 9% using a UV energy of 25J/cm2. Furthermore, the photochemically dyed wool fabric showed higher colorfastness properties to light, laundering and rubbing comparable to conventional reactive dyeing.

Abstract: As a subsequent research of the previously reported9), a series of diaminoanthraquinoid blue dyes having hexyl,heptyl and octyl substituents were newly synthesized in order to investigate dyeability toward polypropylene fibers. As the length of alkyl groups introduced to the chromophore increased, the dyeability of the dyes toward polypropylene fibers also increased and then gradually decreased. From the result of dyeing, the hexyl-substituted dye showed the highest color strength and deep shade on pure polypropylene fibers. The good fastness rates to wash, rubbing and light were also obtained for all of the synthesized dyes.

Abstract: Jacquard floor covering could be prepared from low-melting/regular sheath-core hybrid polyester, where the fiber is dyed in yarn state. With regard that the expected high shrinkage of the hybrid polyester in water makes problems in yarn dyeing, low-temperature dyeing properties of the hybrid polyester were studied. The rate of shrinkage of low-melting hybrid polyester exceeds 9% in hot water above 90℃, at such condition, cheese yarn dyeing is very difficult. Although disperse dyes exhaust in a relatively high speed on low-melting hybrid polyester, diffusion of these dyes to the core regular polyester was extremely slow under 90℃. Foron Blue E-BL 150, an anthraquinone E-type disperse dye, showed appreciable diffusion after 48hrs dyeing at 90℃. The fastness to rubbing and drycleaning were improved by one grade after reduction cleaning.
