ABSTRACT

This study proposes an indoor noise prediction method to quantitatively assess the impact of aircraft noise on classroom learning environments and evaluates its applicability by comparison with prediction techniques for road and railway noise. Aircraft noise was classified into four propulsion-based types (jet engine, turbofan, turboprop, helicopter). Frequency-dependent acoustic characteristics were analyzed using 5‑minute equivalent sound levels. Room-acoustic simulations incorporating classroom geometry and absorption properties produced outdoor‑to‑indoor correction values of −8.0 to −8.2 dB(A), similar to corrections for road/rail noise. The findings indicate baseline applicability of existing models to aircraft noise, while future parameter calibration using in-situ measurements is recommended.
