ABSTRACT

Expression Aspect in Poetry of Maecheon -focusing on use of cheopja(疊字)- Hwang, Su-jeong This study expression aspect in poetry of Maecheon. It focuses on use of cheopja(疊字). First, it examines use of acoustic image. He used a variety of onomatopoeic words for cheopja(疊字). That is, he evaded repetition of onomatopoeic words to pursue originality of poetic words. He also used natural sounds. It indicates that he has outstanding linguistic sense and abundant observation. And he used dental sounds and Ipseongja to secure strong accent of acoustical effects. Next, this study examines use of visual image. First, it finds that Maecheon recognized things in various angles, which doubled dynamic senses of poetic words. He also maintained consistent virtue in expression of his feeling. That is, his poetry is full of depressed and calm feeling. Finally, this study examines use of time and space image. He also used various compounds on time. It emphasizes different contents of poetry. Therefore, it helps reinforce acoustical aspect and meaning at the same time. Based on the results above, Maecheon's repetitive technique was used as an alternative to overcome his descriptive and awkward poetic world as demonstrated in the theses on his poetry. That is, it can be suggested that it was used as a poetic device to acquire flexibility of poetry.
