ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to examine the literary characteristics and significance of Palyeokga, which is distinct from the previous practical books. In the meantime, the relevance of Palyeokga to practical books compiled at the time, such as Taekriji, has attracted attention. However, the critical perspective of Taekriji is greatly reduced in Palyeokga, and the negative feelings of the writer Na Nae-seok as a 19th-century local cousin who lost his social position are discussed, so it is necessary to reconsider its characteristics and significance. Palyeokga introduced famous scenic spots and historical sites in various parts of the area in the form of travel lyrics. However, since the speaker's travel in the work is not real, his knowledge of local scenic spots is only a rough description, and his appreciation is replaced by inserting famous Chinese poems. On the other hand, Palyeokga made efforts to reconstruct the subject matter literary by mobilizing the artist's imagination and literary devices for local history. In particular, Palyeokga devoted a great deal of weight to the private history of the four families who practiced the ethics of loyalty. Considering the life of the artist who had aspirations to realize social identity through shooting, this can be understood as an attempt to pay attention to the ideal representation of the artist's aspiration. The writer's consciousness of Palyeokga shares the problem consciousness with the lyrics of the Hyangchon clan created as a literary response to the changing reality of Hyangchon society since the 18th century. The artist tried to share the problematic consciousness of the nature of their existence through the lyrics. At this time, Palyeokga mobilized the subject of national geographic information that people of the time would be interested in, and added literary imagination to induce the interest and immersion of the enjoyers. In this serious problem consciousness of the reality of life that is contrary to the ideal and the novelty of the form taken to effectively embody it, the literary and historical significance of Palyeokga can be found, which is distinct from other practical books and lyrics of the Hyangchon clan built at the same time.
