ABSTRACT

This study aims to examine the patterns of selecting poems based on seven- word Pailu in Dongmunseon. The study examined the patterns of selecting poems based on “Dongmunseon” and “seven-word Pailu” in three aspects including “emphasizing poetical compositions in an amusing situation,” “including rhyme-borrowing poems with high responsivity,” and “reflecting various utilization.” “Emphasizing poetical compositions in an amusing situation” reflects such amusing situations as feasts, celebrations, and appreciations along with social interactions among literary people in a ceremonial situation. It holds significance in the aspect of utilizing seven-word Pailu. “Including rhyme-borrowing poems with high responsivity” had Chawoonsangsu of send-offs, donations, and responses in many cases. The high percentage of rhyme-borrowing poems reflected the culture of valuing relationship rather than the personal aspect. “Reflecting various utilization” includes the functionality of the traditional Pailu, which is the tendency of selecting poems in Dongmunseon・Five-Word Pailu, demonstrating the discernable content. Seven-word Pailu shows sameness as its five-word counterpart in the functional aspect such as Bongjeung of Gugwan, but the materials of “Jeyeong, Jipgu, Jehwa, Gwongye, and Manjang” are not found in five-word Pailu. These materials distinguish the utilization of seven-word Pailu from five-word Pailu. The selection of poems based on seven-word Pailu in Dongmunseon holds significance in that it was the most faithful in East Asia and examined the utilization patterns of specific poetic forms through the patterns of selecting poems based on seven-word Pailu.
