AB - This study purposes to identify the current problems of academic library automation and analyze causes for the problems. The problems on library automation include : absence of systematic and long-term planning, inconsistent policy, lack of competent and qualified manpower, hardware and software constraints, effects of library network, financial limitations to system developers, lack of co-operation among libraries, insufficient user services. In order to improve these matters, suggest several recommendations. This paper gives basis to approach the library automation systematically.
