ABSTRACT

This study analyzed the structural characteristics of the KCR5 and KORMARC formats and examined considerations for their application, the details of which are as follows. First, since KCR5 is entity-relationship centered on the FR conceptual model and the KORMARC formats are record-field centered, various structural inconsistencies may arise during the encoding process of KCR5. Second, there are elements in KCR5 that record attributes of work and expression that exist in the KORMARC bibliographic format but are absent in the authority format, and these need to be added. Third, when applying KCR5 and KORMARC formats, it is necessary to allow the use of ISBD punctuation and the duplicate recording of bibliographic and authority records related to work and expression. Fourth, regardless of KCR5 regulations, it is necessary to review whether to create records for all entities or to create only records for newly published resources. Fifth, regarding the recording of bibliographic relationships in KCR5, it would be desirable to record both identifiers and authorized access points, rather than just one, to ensure the linking function of the catalog.
