ABSTRACT

This study aimed to review the literacy-related articles in the journal of Modern English Education in commemoration of its 10 years of history (2000-2009). A total of 38 literacy-related papers (15.8%) out of 240 have been published in the last ten years. The researchers reviewed the papers in terms of three perspectives: The main research topics, the subjects' levels of proficiency, and the research methodology. This study revealed that the research on reading has been productive in the area of skills and strategies, and that on writing, teacher/learner variables such as learner’s traits,teacher’s perspectives, teacher-learner interaction, peer learning, and writing evaluation. This review indicated that more research on the use of teaching media should be required in the reading area and that on the use of internet and computer technology,and interrelationship with other language skills in the writing area in the future. In addition, this review showed that the subjects were pretty skewed, mostly conducted with college levels. Therefore, the future research should more balance the subjects’levels. Also should be required more qualitative research and integration of qualitativeand quantitative research in the reading area, and more quantitative research in the writing area.
