ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to suggest the appropriate application of the English digital text books. For this purpose, after reviewing previous studies, the researcher collected 30 reports of the pilot schools that experimented with digital textbooks and analyzed those reports through the meta-analysis. The pilot schools implemented three tasks. First was installing infra for using digital textbooks. Second was the operation of the digital textbooks curriculum. Third was the analysis of effectiveness and suitability of the digital textbooks. Especially, the effectiveness is related with academic achievement, English learning attitude, self-directed ability, and problem solving ability. The suitability is concerned with the eye sight and VDT syndrome. The results of the effect size of the 4 items (academic achievement, English leaning attitude,self-directed ability, problem solving ability) showed no effectiveness compared with controlled groups. Thus, the English textbook should be revised as follows; 1. It should not only contain the factors of interaction and technology which enhance real communicative chances, but new media different from TPC (Tablet Personal Computer). 2. And it should be developed into the appropriate teaching and learning model.
