ABSTRACT

This study was to analyze the major changes in the 2015 Revised National English curriculum announced on September 23, 2015. The new curriculum aims to build communicative competence, self-management competence, community competence, and information processing competence for students to prepare for the future. Another major change is the presentation of the contents table that extracts the content elements to be learned in the English curriculum and presents skills required to apply them. Therefore, the study discussed the major changes such as the definition of core competency, the scope of reflection of key competences on the curriculum, and the function of the contents table. In addition, issues related to the application of the 2015 Revised National English Curriculum were discussed. First, it does not directly reflect core competencies in achievement standards. Even though the 2015 Revised English Curriculum emphasizes student-centered learning and process-oriented evaluation to build the core competency, it is unclear whether it suggests a concrete plan to apply it. Second, since the elective courses designed for career guides were newly established in the high school curriculum, teaching and evaluation methods should be changed based on the characteristics of the subjects.
