ABSTRACT

With the rapid development and diffusion of information and communication technology, the use of internet is widely disseminated in the community and as a result, people have the chance to communicate together, develop their relationship, and constitute the newly internet-based community, which have never been experienced before. In this regard, it is interesting topics to discuss how they communicate among themselves through community network based on the internet and they build the social capital in the online environment. This study is to raise and explore the relationship between the community network and the social capital. The analysis is based on the case of Blacksburg Electronic Village(BEV) which is the first community network in the United States. In detail, the study is to analyze the theoretical assumptions and discussions raised in this issue. And also this analysis shows the very thought-provoking suggestions for the case of Information Network Village in Korea.
