ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to examine the origin, diffusion process and implications of 'Red Devils' phenomenon, with respect to the informatization of our society. Results show that the secret of success of Red Devils is that key members of the community understood and embodied implications and principles of coming knowledge-based information society better than anyone else. Members of 'Red Devils' made the best use of advantages of information and communication technology, linking online and offline activities effectively. Specifically, in the organizing process of 'Red Devils' they maximized advantages of cyberspace, combined internet and offline site, and embodied principles of constructing cyber community. These brought unprecedented diffusion and great success of cyber community 'Red Devils' along with hosting the World Cup in Korea.
