ABSTRACT

This paper supposes that Internet-mediated politics has changed the nature of the relationship of political parties with citizens because the Internet builds a new type of communication and relationship between them. The paper pays attention to the fact that the Internet-mediated politics has transformed the nature of political participation and the contents of political interests. Such changes are related to the segmentation of interests, politics of emotion, and life-style politics. As the traditional mass party model assumes a hierarchical organization with shared identities, common interests, and disciplines, these changes that the Internet causes make a mass party model difficult to accommodate them. the Internet-mediated politics not only shapes a new type of politics but also undermines a traditional role of political parties.
