ABSTRACT

It has been reported that the turnover rate of information technology(IT) workers trends to increase each year whether it is in domestic or abroad. Realizing this increasing turnover rate is a worldwide phenomenon, this study attempted to extend the previous turnover intention model by integrating IT managers’ leadership style and IT workers’empowerment level into the previous research model that had emphasized job satisfaction and organizational commitment as strong predictors of turnover intention. Major findings in this study include that parallel support for IT employees with IT manager’s transformational and transactional leadership can increase employees’empowerment, extra effort, job satisfaction and organizational commitment, which can decrease turnover intention after all. This result indicates that IT managers’leadership behaviors and employees’empowerment can significantly affect their turnover intentions as well as the career-oriented incentives and task characteristics previously emphasized.
